Doggie Review: The Kong

Everyone that owns a dog knows how important it is to find a toy your dog loves and one that is made well. Now, many owners can buy their dog a toy that will last for years and be their lifetime friend. However, there are others who struggle just to keep the stuffing out of the floor from the last birthday present. This is one reason my dogs got the nickname “the Velociraptors”. From the very beginning, we spent a fortune trying to find a toy that would last more than a week in our house. Then we discovered something amazing…THE KONG!!! (dramatic music)

This is the classic Kong. We purchased ours when Casey was about 4 months old and eating everything in sight. They are labeled as “indestructible”  toys and for “heavy duty” chewers. And I am here to tell you, they are not lying! We have had the same Kong for almost 2 years now. It has been through two puppies, tug-o-war fights and believe it or not, has survived numerous tussles with the lawn mower and has come out unscathed. The great thing about these is that they are not only bouncy and flexible, but you can put stuff in them! There is an opening in the bottom of the toy for treats or, better yet, peanut butter. This will keep your pup busy for hours.

This little guy has truly been a favorite for my dogs. We got one to start out with and had to go back and get another because they loved it so much. Stuffed animals have always been a favorite for the velociraptors – they even stole Santa Claus off the table last year at Christmas. But unfortunately, our stuffed animal friends tend to have a short lifespan once they get to our house. But these Cozies really impressed me. We have had them for two months and just the other day, they ripped one a little. It’s actually a little frustrating for them because they sit and try to tear it apart with no luck.

So, go support your nearest pet store or animal clinic and purchase a Kong. Velociraptor Approved.

Makeup Review: Fan Faves

I have been selling Avon for about two years now and am so thankful for the products I have found. Just wanted to share a few of my favorites with you.

First of all, I have always had issues with finding a foundation that works for me. I have a bad habit of touching my face a lot throughout the day. With other foundations I have used, by the time I got home from school or work, my face was splotchy and my makeup faded. But with this product, along with a good translucent powder, my makeup stays put all day.

I would be completely lost without my Glimmerstick eyeliner. It goes on smooth and stays on for all-day wear. Plus, it has the added shimmer to the color to give your eyes that extra pop. I use the Waterproof formula because my eyes water a lot, so it helps the eyeliner to stay put.

Lastly, I have fallen in love with the 8-in-1 eye palettes, the neutral tones and water colors. The colors stay on pretty well and blend together nicely. The biggest disadvantage is that the color selection is not the best but, for the price, it is a great deal.

This is the only plug I will make for myself and my Avon business (haha) but I will let you in on any new products I find. If you are interested in browsing Avon’s great makeup selection, visit shopavon.com and for ordering, feel free to contact me at fiddlechick400@yahoo.com.

Where Words Fail, Music Speaks

“Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. – Victor Hugo

Music was destined to find me…I don’t have a single childhood memory that does not contain even a little musical aspect. My dad had always been a bluegrass nut but my classically trained pianist of a mother would not let her child grow up without being musically well-rounded. However, mom lost the battle when I started playing fiddle at 12 years old.

I am so blessed to have been part of a gospel bluegrass band, Narrow Road, for 8 years now. It is difficult for any musician to describe quite what music means to them and I find myself in the same position now. Let’s just say, I would not be where I am today, where it not for music.

The New World of Fitness

I will have to say, I was pretty skeptical when my best friend suggested we try a Zumba class. But finally, after hearing the rave reviews and a generous amount of coaxing from my friend, I found myself agreeing to “give it a try.” I, for one, am not a morning person and getting up at 7:30 am to exercise was not on my bucket list  but, alas, there I was. The music started and the entire room filled with an indescribable energy. Of course, the first few times I went, I was totally overwhelmed (not to mention, I am a terrible dancer). But after a while, the moves start clicking and before I knew it, I found myself actually looking forward to getting up on Wednesday morning for my Zumba class.

One uniques aspect that Zumba has to offer is the music. They pull from heart-pounding Latin hits to today’s favorite top songs. I think that’s part of what makes it fun. Who doesn’t feel like dancing when you hear Shakira playing?

It may sound cliche but, I can honestly say that Zumba has changed my life, at least my exercise life. Not only do I attend a weekly class at my local rec. center but I also purchased an Xbox Kinect Zumba Fitness game. I have never been great at sticking to a regular exercise schedule but I don’t really feel like I’m working out when I am doing Zumba. It’s more like I get to dance around for an hour, all while feeling more energetic and staying in shape. I definitely encourage everyone to find a Zumba fitness class near you. I promise you will be addicted before the second song is over.

Meet the Velociraptors

“My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my dog already thinks I am.” – Author Unknown

Meet Casey and Shelby, my “practice children.”

Casey just turned 2 years old and feels as if she is in charge of the house and her sister, as well as my husband and I. Staying true to her Australian Cattle Dog personality, she is strong-willed and stubborn, but the most loyal friend you will ever find. I have never seen a dog act as much like a person as she does. To tell you the truth, I don’t think she really knows she’s a dog.

On the other hand, Shelby, our Heinz 57 pup, seems to always be in the background, planning her escape. I wouldn’t call her an evil genius…

I will keep you updated on their adventures and mishaps as they are discovered. Just take a look at what they have gotten themselves so far…
